What are the penalties for selling cannabis to minors?
In Kansas, selling cannabis to minors is a serious offense that is subject to severe penalties. Depending on the amount of cannabis sold and the age of the minor, the offender could face up to four years of prison time and fines of up to $100,000. In addition, the offender could lose their driver’s license, be prohibited from holding certain types of jobs, and become ineligible to receive certain types of government assistance or loans. In general, when a person is convicted of selling cannabis to a minor, the person must serve a mandatory minimum prison sentence of one year and face a fine of up to $50,000. However, if the minor is under 14 years of age, the person may face a fine of up to $100,000 and a prison sentence of up to four years. Anyone convicted of selling marijuana to a minor may also be required to register as a drug offender, which will restrict their eligibility for certain types of employment and housing. Depending on the circumstances, the offender may also be ordered to attend treatment classes or drug education programs. In addition, any person who knowingly sells cannabis to a minor may be charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a felony offense punishable by up to one year in prison for a first offense. For subsequent offenses, the offender may face a prison sentence of up to three years.
