How do I request validation of a debt?

If you are a consumer in Kansas and are being contacted by a creditor or debt collector about a debt that you do not believe is valid, you are entitled to request validation of the debt according to Kansas Consumer Debt Defense Law. In order to do so, you should send a certified letter to the creditor or debt collector that has been contacting you. In the letter, you should clearly state your request for validation of the debt. There should also be a statement that you are entitled to receive validation of the debt according to the Kansas Consumer Debt Defense Law, and that you will not pay the debt or be liable for it until if the collection agency can provide you with the proper validation. In addition, the letter should be worded in a manner that gives the collection agency 30 days to respond. This can be done by either providing you with written evidence that the debt is valid, or by providing you with written notice that the debt can no longer be pursued and is no longer a debt owed by you. If the collection agency does not respond within 30 days, then it is understood that the debt is no longer owed by you and cannot be pursued any further.
