How do I file a complaint against a debt collector?
If you’ve been the victim of debt collector harassment or abuse in the state of Nevada, you can file a complaint against them with the Nevada Office of the Attorney General. The state of Nevada has laws in place to protect consumers from debt collectors who are not following the rules. The Office of the Attorney General will investigate any possible violations of the Consumer Debt Defense Law. To file a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General, you will need to fill out a Consumer Complaint Form. This form can be downloaded from the Attorney General’s website. Once you complete the form, you must mail or fax it to the Consumer Affairs Division. Or, you can file a complaint online. Your complaint should include as much detail as possible about the debt collector and the harassment or abuse you encountered. This will help the Office of the Attorney General investigate your claim and take appropriate action. If you send in a complaint, you can expect to receive a response from the Office of the Attorney General within 30 days. After the investigation is complete, the Office of the Attorney General will take appropriate action based on the results. They may contact the debt collector to demand that they stop the illegal activity, or they may take legal action. If you feel like you have been treated unfairly by a debt collector, filing a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General is your best option to defend your rights.
