What is investment fraud?

Investment fraud is a type of consumer fraud that involves the deception of investors. It is illegal and punishable under Florida law. Investment fraud can take many forms, such as the sale of worthless or overpriced securities, manipulation of stock prices, or providing false or misleading information about an investment or company. Investment fraud is often perpetrated by brokers, advisors, and other financial professionals in order to make money for themselves or their firms. Fraudulent investment schemes can have disastrous outcomes for victims. Victims may lose the money they invested, fail to receive promised returns, or be subject to high-pressure sales tactics. In some cases, the fraudster may even take control of the investor’s assets or accounts. In order to protect themselves, investors should perform their own due diligence before investing. This means researching the company offering the investment, asking questions, confirming the details of the investment, and documenting all communications. Additionally, investors should be on the lookout for red flags such as guaranteed returns or promises of low risk with high rewards. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
