Can one parent get full custody of a child?

In California, a parent can apply for full custody of a child. The court must consider the best interests of the child when determining custody of the child. Generally, the court will consider the stability of both parents, the relationship of the child with both parents, the parents’ ability to provide for the child’s needs, and the child’s wishes. The court may award a parent full legal and physical custody of the child, which is a court order that enables the parent to make decisions on behalf of the child and to have complete physical control and responsibility of the child. In most cases, the court will award joint legal and physical custody to both parents. This means that both parents will share legal custody and physical custody of the child. It also means both parents are able to make decisions regarding the child’s health, education, and welfare, and both parents will be granted visitation rights with their child. However, in some cases, the court may award full legal and physical custody to one parent. This means that the custodial parent is responsible for the care and well-being of the child, including providing the child with a stable living environment and making all important decisions regarding the child’s health, education, and welfare. The non-custodial parent may still have visitation rights, but the custodial parent will make the final decisions for the child.
