Can a parent refuse to allow the other parent to see the child?

In California, a parent is legally obligated to follow the parenting plan or child custody order established by the court. Therefore, it is not typically allowed for a parent to unilaterally deny the other parent access to the child. Even if the parent has sole custody, the other parent is still entitled to visitation rights, unless the court has determined otherwise. If one parent is denying the other parent access to the child, the other parent can file for a court order to enforce these rights. The court will then review the situation and make a determination based on the best interests of the child. If the court finds that the child’s best interests are served by having access to both parents, a visitation schedule will be put in place. If the court still finds that the other parent should not have contact with the child, the denial of visitation will be legally enforced. It is important to note that both parents have a legal responsibility to cooperate in matters of child custody and visitation. If both parents can agree on a parenting plan that is in the best interests of the child, it can be approved by the court without intervention from the court. However, if the parents cannot agree, the court will step in and make the decisions for them.
