What permits and licenses are required for a new business venture in China?
Starting a new business venture in China requires obtaining several permits and licenses before beginning operations. Depending on the type of business, some of the permits and licenses required could include: 1) Business License – All businesses in China must obtain a business license issued by the Administration for Industry and Commerce before they can officially begin operations. This license contains the company’s business scope, registered address and registered capital as well as the liability of its shareholders. 2) Tax Registration Certificate – All businesses in China must also obtain a tax registration certificate issued by the Tax Administration before beginning operations. The certificate includes the company’s tax registration number, business scope, registered address and registered capital. 3) Import/Export License – Any company that is involved in importing and/or exporting products or services needs to obtain an import/export license issued by the General Administration of Customs. The license also requires companies to set up an import/export account and deposit foreign exchange in the bank for settling payments. 4) Foreigner’s Work Permit – Any business that plans on hiring foreign personnel must obtain a Foreigner’s Work Permit issued by the Foreign Expert Bureau. The permit is valid for one year and must be renewed annually. In general, depending on the type of business, there may be other permits and licenses that are required as well. It is important to familiarize yourself with the proper regulations before starting a business in China so that you can be sure to obtain all necessary documentation.
