What is a class representative?
A class representative is a person who is chosen to represent a group of people in a class action lawsuit. In a class action lawsuit, a single person, known as the class representative, represents the interests of a large group of people who have similar rights and/or interests. In Hawaii, class representatives are chosen by the court to be responsible for the group’s claim. The class representative is responsible for negotiating a settlement or representing the class at trial. The class representative is expected to have knowledge of the rights and interests of all members of the class. The class representative also serves as a leader and spokesperson for the class. In class action lawsuits, the class representative is one of the most important parties. The class representative must protect the interests of all members of the class while also ensuring that a fair and reasonable settlement is reached. Every class action lawsuit is different and requires different amounts of work from the class representative. Class action lawsuits are a great way for individuals to seek justice without incurring excessive costs. With a class representative, individuals are able to band together to pursue their rights and interests as a collective.
