What are the legal requirements for class action notice?
In Alaska, class action lawsuits allow a number of people to bring a single claim or action to court. The notice plan must also be approved by the court and must be sent to all class members individually. The notice must be in an easy to understand format, sent either by regular mail or by email, and must be in a language that all class members understand. The court may also require additional notice, including publication in newspapers, radio, or television. Additionally, notice to any potential class members outside of Alaska must also be sent. Overall, the court has the authority to determine the form and manner of notice. It is important that all class members are properly notified of the action, so that they can choose to participate or opt-out if they so choose.
