What is construction law?
Construction law is a set of laws that govern the process of constructing buildings, roads, or bridges. These laws are in place to ensure that construction is done safely and is in compliance with various regulations. In North Carolina, all construction projects must follow the guidelines set forth by the North Carolina State Construction Code, which is overseen by the North Carolina Department of Insurance. Construction law is important to ensure projects are completed in a timely fashion, while still meeting the safety requirements put forth by the state. Building materials must conform to safety standards, and contractors must obtain the proper permits, licenses, and insurance coverage before beginning any construction activity. Contracts are an important part of construction law. Before any work begins, property owners and contractors must come to an agreement regarding the scope of the project, timelines, payment, and other legal obligations. These contracts ensure that parties are held accountable for any financial or legal obligations that arise. Lastly, construction law protects the rights of all parties involved in construction projects. If a dispute arises, construction law provides an effective way for parties to settle their differences and reach an agreement. Construction law exists to ensure that construction projects are done safely and with minimal disruption to the public.
