What consumer protections exist in the automotive repair industry?

In Arizona, consumers have protections in the automotive repair industry. Automotive repair facilities must provide customers with written estimates for services before beginning the repairs. At the completion of the service, the customer must receive a written invoice that itemizes the services completed, the parts used, and the cost of each item. If the customer agrees to additional services or parts while the work is being completed, the automotive repair facility must provide a supplemental written estimate that details the extra work and cost. Consumers in Arizona have the right to choose the parts used for the repairs. The automotive repair facility must use new parts if the customer requests and pays for them. The facility must also return any replaced parts to the customer upon request, unless they are hazardous or are needed to complete other repairs on the same vehicle. In addition, any used parts used in the repair must have a minimum warranty of 90 days. The facility must also honor and stand behind any written warranties issued by the manufacturer of the parts. Finally, the automotive repair facility is obligated to inform the customer of any recalls or safety bulletins that might affect their vehicle. This ensures that the consumer’s vehicle is kept in optimal condition and runs safely after the repair is completed.
