Are there consumer protections in place to protect against internet fraud?
Yes, there are consumer protections in place in Arizona to protect against internet fraud. Arizona’s Consumer Fraud Act provides protections to consumers for goods and services purchased via the internet. Under the Act, sellers are prohibited from making false, deceptive, or misleading statements regarding a product or service, including statements about the price, quality, or availability of the product or service. The Arizona Consumer Fraud Act also forbids a seller from knowingly providing inaccurate information about the nature of the product or service, such as false warranties, guarantees, or performance standards. Similarly, sellers are prohibited from advertising a product or service for sale, and then failing to honor the advertised price or terms. Additionally, the Act requires sellers to prominently display, and accurately reflect in all advertising, any fees or charges that may apply to an internet transaction. Furthermore, sellers are prohibited from placing restrictions or conditions on an internet transaction that would not be placed on the same transaction conducted in person. In Arizona, the Office of the Arizona Attorney General has the authority to enforce the provisions of the Consumer Fraud Act. The office is able to provide legal assistance to consumers who have been victimized by internet fraud. Anyone who believes they have been a victim of an internet fraud should contact the Office of the Arizona Attorney General immediately.
