What is the difference between an agent and an employee?

An agent and an employee are similar in that they both work for someone else. However, they have some important differences. An agent is someone who is authorized to act on behalf of another person, or a company. Agents are typically given the authority to make contractual agreements on behalf of their employer. An employee, on the other hand, is someone who is hired by an employer to perform a specific task or set of tasks. Unlike an agent, an employee does not have the authority to make agreements on behalf of their employer. Another difference between an agent and an employee is the type of relationship they have with their employer. An agent usually has a contract with their employer that outlines the terms of their relationship, while an employee’s relationship is usually governed by a set of employer policies. An employee is also subject to the employer’s control, while an agent is generally free to act in a manner that is independent of their employer’s control. Finally, an agent and an employee have different legal responsibilities. An agent is generally responsible for any wrongs they commit while acting on behalf of their employer, while an employee is only responsible for acts that are authorized by their employer. In North Carolina, agents and employees are both also subject to certain labor laws and regulations, such as the North Carolina Wage and Hour Act.
