What rights does a copyright owner have?
In Florida, as in all of the United States, copyright law grants the copyright owner certain exclusive legal rights. These rights include: 1. The right to reproduce the copyrighted work: This means the copyright owner has the exclusive right to produce copies of their intellectual property, such as books, songs, artwork, and more. The copyright owner also has the exclusive right to produce derivative works of their copyrighted work. 2. The right to distribute copies of the copyrighted work: This includes the exclusive right to distribute copies of the copyrighted work in any form. This can include online, through physical copies, or through public performances. 3. The right to publicly perform or display the copyrighted work: This includes the exclusive right to perform the copyrighted work publicly, such as a play or concert. It also includes the right to show any visual arts in public, such as an exhibit or film. 4. The right to create derivative works: This right grants the copyright owner the exclusive right to create works that are based on or derived from the original copyrighted work. For example, if you wrote a book, you would have the exclusive right to create any sequels, spin-offs, or other similar works. These exclusive rights are granted to the copyright owner and can only be used by them. The copyright holder is able to enforce these rights in court if they feel that their copyright has been violated.
