How do I copyright a website?

In North Carolina, copyright protection is available for websites. To obtain copyright protection for a website, the website needs to be registered with the U.S. Copyright Office. The process to register a website includes several steps. First, the website’s content must have been written by the person requesting copyright protection. The website needs to be published online as well. Second, the author of the website needs to fill out the appropriate form on the U.S. Copyright Office website. This form will ask the author to provide information about the website, the author, and the date of publication. Third, a fee must be paid to the U.S. Copyright Office. The fee will vary depending on the type of website and the size of the website. Fourth, the website must be sent to the U.S. Copyright Office along with the form and fee. The website must be sent on a CD, DVD, or other physical media that can be read by the Copyright Office. Once the form and fee have been received and the website has been registered, the website will be granted federal copyright protection from the U.S. Copyright Office. This protection gives the author of the website the exclusive right to distribute, modify and reproduce the work. This copyright protection will last for the life of the author plus 75 years.
