What is copyright law enforcement?
Copyright law enforcement is the act of regulating, monitoring, and enforcing compliance of copyright laws. In Washington State, copyright law is enforced by the United States Copyright Office, which is part of the United States Library of Congress. Copyright law enforcement is the act of ensuring that creators of original artistic works, such as literary and musical works, receive protection for their work. Copyright law enforcement helps to protect the rights of creators to benefit from and profit from their creative works, as well as to protect this information from being used without permission. The US Copyright Office works to identify violations of copyright law and then take action, such as seeking an injunction or collecting damages. Additionally, the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) provides guidance on copyright law enforcement in Washington State. Many organizations, such as the Motion Picture Association of America, International Intellectual Property Alliance, and Business Software Alliance work to protect the rights of creators by providing intelligence on copyright laws and enforcing them to protect creators’ rights. Laws vary state to state, but Washington State has legislation that sets up civil and criminal penalties for violations of copyright law. Copyright law enforcement is an important part of protecting creators and their works.
