How are overseas child support payments enforced?
In Michigan, just like everywhere else, it is important to enforce child support payments, even when they come from overseas. The enforcement of overseas payments can be tough, however. In the state of Michigan, the Michigan Child Support Enforcement System (MiCSES) is used to help make sure that child support payments are processed correctly and efficiently. The MiCSES works with other countries that have adopted the Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance. With this convention, countries can work together to make sure that overseas payments are enforced. Through MiCSES, Michigan can work with other countries to collect child support payments from parents who live outside the United States. The MiCSES website has a list of countries that have ratified the Hague Convention on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance. The MiCSES also has a web-based international payment clearinghouse, which allows payments from other countries to be sent directly to the Michigan Child Support Enforcement System. This system helps to make sure that child support payments from overseas are enforced in the state of Michigan. If a court order has been issued to enforce child support payments from abroad, Michigan also works with the United States Department of State to make sure that the order is enforced. The Department of State can work with the state in which the non-custodial parent lives. In addition, the US government can also provide access to resources in other countries that can help in the enforcement of overseas payments. Ultimately, Michigan takes enforcing child support payments from overseas seriously, and works hard to make sure that non-custodial parents pay child support, even if they live far away.
