What happens at my creditors meeting during Chapter 13 Bankruptcy?

When filing for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy in New York, you must attend a creditors meeting. During this meeting, the bankruptcy court will hear from the debtor (you) and a trustee assigned to the case. The trustee is an independent person appointed by the court to review the bankruptcy petition and make sure all of the information is accurate. At the creditors meeting, the trustee will ask you various questions about your financial situation and how you plan to repay your creditors. You will also be asked to provide proof of income, such as pay stubs and receipts. The trustee will also ask you to provide information about your assets, such as cars, bank accounts, and investments. All of these items will be used to determine if your Chapter 13 repayment plan is feasible. If the trustee approves the repayment plan, it will be sent to the court to be reviewed and approved. Once the court approves the plan, you’ll be responsible for making payments to the trustee, who in turn will distribute the money to your creditors. In addition to attending the creditors meeting, there are also certain requirements that must be met before the court can approve your plan. These include attending credit counseling and submitting all necessary forms. If everything is approved, the court will enter an order confirming the plan and you’ll be allowed to make payments according to the terms laid out in the order.
