How do I register for a civil union?

In Florida, couples can register for a civil union by filling out and submitting an application to a notary public. The application must include the required documents such as ID cards or passports, birth certificates, and proof of residency. The couple must also submit the Civil Union Registration Fee of $30. After submitting the application, the notary public will conduct a short civil union ceremony and record the union in a registry book. The couple will then receive a civil union certificate. This certificate is the legal document that allows the couple to be legally recognized as a civil union. The couple must also notify the Clerk of the Circuit Court in the county where they plan to live in order to register the civil union with the court. This is a separate process from the one done with the notary public. The couple must submit a written request to the court and pay a fee of $25. The Clerk of the Circuit Court will then enter the information into the court’s records and provide the couple with a copy of the civil union certificate. Once the civil union is registered with the court, the couple has a legally recognized union. They are then able to enjoy the benefits and protections afforded by the state to married couples.
