Does a civil union allow for hospital visitation rights?

In Alaska, civil unions do allow for hospital visitation rights. Just like marriage, the civil union partner is able to visit their partner in the hospital, make decisions regarding medical treatments, and access their partner’s medical records. Civil union partners are able to receive health insurance benefits and will have the right to make medical decisions for their partner if they are unable to do so themselves. They are also able to make decisions and or be notified in the event of their partner’s death. These rights are all similar to those of married couples under Alaska’s Civil Union Law. Additionally, civil union partners are entitled to the same legal protection as a married couple with regards to the division of property and assets should the relationship end. Civil union partners are also able to claim medical benefits for their partner, if the partner’s employer offers those benefits. In summary, a civil union in Alaska does allow for hospital visitation rights, as well as many other rights that married individuals would have. This includes the right to make medical decisions for their partner and receive health insurance benefits. It also includes the right to be notified of their partner’s death and the right to claim medical benefits from their partner’s insurance.
