Is a civil union recognized in other countries?
A civil union is a legally recognized union between two same-sex couples in North Carolina, with rights and responsibilities similar to those of a married couple. While civil unions are recognized in North Carolina, they are not recognized outside of the state. In the United States, civil unions are not universally recognized. Some states such as Vermont, New Jersey, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Delaware, Hawaii, and Illinois have laws allowing for civil unions or domestic partnerships.
