What is the legal age requirement to enter into a civil union?

In the state of Tennessee, the legal age requirement for entering into a civil union is 18 years of age. Those wishing to enter into a civil union must both be at least 18 and of the same gender. Under no circumstances may someone younger than 18 enter into a civil union. Minors aged 16 or 17 years old may enter into a civil union if they obtain written consent from their parent or legal guardian. Documentation of the consent must be provided to the court. Depending on the circumstances, a court may also require parental supervision and may set limits on the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved. In addition, if either of the parties is at least 18 years of age but not yet 21, then that party must also have written consent from a parent or legal guardian. The court may also require a guardian to appear in court on behalf of any minor. No one under the age of 16 is allowed to enter into a civil union in Tennessee. Furthermore, if either of the parties is under 18 and enters into the union without the written consent of their parent or legal guardian, then the union is seen as illegal and can be challenged at any time by any party.
