Yes, there are requirements for entering into a civil union in Arkansas. Both parties must be at least 18 years of age, and they must not be closer in relationship than second cousins. Additionally, both parties must be competent and legally able to enter into a contract. A valid Arkansas civil union license must be purchased from the County Clerk. Both parties must sign the license in the presence of two witnesses, as well as a Clerk of the County; and the ceremony must be performed in Arkansas. The marriage may not be solemnized within three days from the date the license is issued. Additionally, neither party may be currently married to someone else, although Arkansas does allow for civil unions between a man and a woman, or between two people of the same gender. It is also important to note that civil unions between two people of the same gender are not legally recognized in all states, so it is important to check the laws in your state.
