Are there any requirements for entering into a civil union?
In Kansas, there are several requirements for entering into a civil union. First, both parties must be at least 18 years of age, or have the consent of a parent or guardian if they are younger. Second, both parties must be single and of the opposite sex. Third, both parties must voluntarily enter into the agreement and not be forced to do so. Fourth, both parties must sign an affidavit in front of two witnesses affirming that they understand the rights and responsibilities they are accepting. Finally, both parties must obtain a marriage license from the county clerk prior to entering into the civil union. Once all of these requirements have been met, the civil union can be legally recognized in Kansas. The parties will then be able to enjoy the same rights, benefits, and obligations that married couples are granted by law. This includes the right to inherit property, make medical decisions for each other, and receive social security benefits. It is important to note that since same sex marriage is not legally recognized in Kansas, same sex couples are unable to enter into civil unions.
