Yes, there are requirements for entering into a civil union in South Carolina. First, both parties must be of the same sex and at least 18 years of age. Additionally, the couple must not already be married or in a civil union, domestic partnership, or similar relationship in another state. In addition, the couple must obtain a license from the South Carolina Probate Court and they must appear in person at the court to get a license.
