Yes, there are requirements set out in the civil union law in Washington for individuals who wish to enter into a civil union. First, both parties must be 18 years of age or older. Additionally, both parties must consent to the civil union and must express that consent before two witnesses and an individual certified by the state to perform the civil union. Furthermore, the individuals cannot already be in a marriage or legal domestic partnership with another person. In addition, individuals cannot be closer than first cousins, nor can either party be married to someone else. Finally, both parties must also provide proof of identity and proof of age. With these requirements met, individuals may enter into a civil union.
