What types of products are covered under Dangerous Products Law?
In Florida, the Dangerous Products Law covers a wide variety of products, including most items that could cause harm if used incorrectly. These include anything from prescription drugs and firearms to toys and household items. Some products that are particularly dangerous and must meet specific safety guidelines include electrical products, such as cords and plugs, fire extinguishers, and pool chemicals. Plumbing fixtures and any devices that emit radiation, such as microwaves, also must comply with safety standards. Household items such as furniture, mattresses, pillows, and baby cribs are also subject to these laws. These items must be permeable to fire or have another form of fire-retardant material, such as plastic, in order to be considered safe. Other products such as paint, aerosol cans, motor vehicles, recreational items, such as bicycles and trampolines, and various types of machinery, including escalators and elevators, are also part of the Dangerous Products Law in Florida. If any of these items are defective, the manufacturer holds the responsibility of informing the public of the defect and fixing the issue. Consumer safety is always the top priority for this law.
