What is data security law?
Data security law is a set of legal statutes that protect personal information from being misused or improperly accessed. In Indiana, data security law is governed by Indiana Code 35-42-4 which sets out the rules and regulations for protecting data privacy. This law requires companies, organizations, and institutions to take steps to protect the data they collect and store. These steps can include encrypting data, restricting access, maintaining firewalls, and using secure servers. This law is also designed to deter data theft and unauthorized access, and protects an individual’s right to privacy. In Indiana, companies that collect, store, or process data must adhere to the provisions of data security law and take steps to ensure that their procedures are secure. This includes implementing measures to ensure that confidential information remains confidential and that only authorized personnel have access. For instance, institutions are required to have a process in place for evaluating any request to access or share information. Publicly available data must also be encrypted or otherwise made unreadable to unauthorized persons. Data security law is important in Indiana because it helps protect the information of individuals. By following these laws and taking steps to maintain the security of personal information, companies can reduce the risk of data breaches and help protect individual privacy.
