What rights do I have when it comes to data security?

When it comes to data security, you have certain rights in North Dakota. The state has a Data Security Law which provides individual and business protection against unauthorized use or disclosure of information. This law states that companies and businesses must protect personal and financial information transmitted electronically. This includes encryption and access control to the data. Businesses must also provide notice of any unauthorized use or disclosure of the data to affected individuals. This notice must explain what happened, what information was used or disclosed, and how to address the incident. Individuals have the right to request that their personal and financial information not be disclosed and that it be destroyed. Further, individuals have the right to know when and how their personal and financial information will be used. Individuals also have the right to receive notification of any data breaches and updates to the company’s data security policy. Businesses must also respond to inquiries regarding data security and must certify that any third-party with whom they share data is compliant with the Data Security Law. Companies are also required to institute and maintain a data security program that meets the requirements of the North Dakota Data Security Law. This program must include employee training on data protection as well as routine reports about the security of the company’s data. Finally, individuals have the right to understand and enforce their rights under the North Dakota Data Security Law. If a data breach occurs, individuals have the right to file a lawsuit against the company for damages resulting from the data breach.
