What is the California Shine the Light law?

The California Shine the Light law is a consumer privacy legislation that was passed in the state of California in 2018. The law also requires businesses to provide consumers with a copy of their information upon request. While the law only applies to California businesses, other states, including Oregon, have passed similar legislation to protect their consumers. Oregon’s Consumer Data Privacy Act, which went into effect in 2020, provides similar protections for Oregon consumers.
