What is the fine system under GDPR?

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is a data security law that applies to all EU countries, businesses might face penalties if they fail to comply with the regulations. In Arkansas, the fines system associated with the GDPR may vary depending on the scope of the breach and the action taken by the organization to remedy the situation. Fines might be imposed for either data breaches or for not having proper data protection measures in place. The fines may differ in amount depending on the severity of the breach and the inaction taken to resolve it. The maximum fines can reach up to 4% of an organization’s annual global turnover or €20 million, whichever is greater. Smaller companies may face a €10 million fine, or 2% of their global turnover. If the organization is found to have taken measures to try and resolve the breach and mitigate any damage, then the penalty might be lower. For organizations that suffer from a data breach, they may also be required to pay a compensation fee to the affected data subject to cover any potential damages caused if the GDPR requirements have not been met. In general, Arkansas businesses should be aware of the GDPR requirements and take steps to ensure their data is secure, or risk facing costly fines for not following the guidelines.
