What is a drunk driving accident?

A drunk driving accident occurs when a driver is operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In California, it is illegal to drive with a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.08 or higher. A BAC of 0.04 or higher is also illegal for commercial vehicle drivers or drivers under 21. A drunk driving accident can be devastating and can result in serious injuries or even death. Being intoxicated while driving reduces the driver’s ability to make quick decisions, which can lead to collisions, risky lane changes, and unsafe driving speeds. It can also impair the driver’s vision, judgment, and ability to react quickly in an emergency. In California, the law takes drunk driving accidents very seriously. If convicted of a drunk driving accident, penalties can include fines, suspensions or revocations of one’s driver’s license, installation of an ignition interlock device on their vehicle, and even jail time. It is important to note that these penalties can be much more severe if the accident resulted in serious injury or death. At the end of the day, the best way to prevent drunk driving accidents is to always have a designated driver before leaving for a night out and to never drink and drive.
