Can a debt collector contact me after I’ve written them a letter asking them to stop?

Yes, a debt collector can still contact you even after you have written them a letter asking them to stop. According to The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) in Pennsylvania, a debt collector can continue to contact you about your debt as long as they are not harassing or oppressive in doing so. Even after you have sent them a letter asking them to cease communication, a debt collector can still contact you in order to confirm that your contact request is real and to discuss any potential payment plans. However, they cannot contact you in an unreasonable manner, such as calling multiple times a day without giving you a chance to respond. Additionally, they are not allowed to use abusive language or threaten you in any way. If a debt collector is not following these rules, you can file a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
