Can a debt collector contact me by phone or in person?

In Tennessee, debt collectors are allowed to contact you by phone or in person in order to collect on a debt you owe. However, they must abide by certain rules. Debt collectors must adhere to the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). According to this law, debt collectors cannot call you repeatedly in order to annoy you or use abusive language. Additionally, debt collectors cannot contact you before 8:00 am or after 9:00 pm local time or on Sundays.
