What is the process for filing a disability discrimination complaint?

If you believe you have been discriminated against due to a disability in the state of Georgia, you can file a disability discrimination complaint with the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity (GCEO). The complaint process begins by gathering the necessary documents and completing a complaint form available on the GCEO website, or by calling GCEO to obtain a copy of the form. When the form is completed, you will need to mail the completed form, a copy of the applicable law, and any other supporting documentation to the GCEO office in Atlanta. Once the GCEO receives the complaint, a legal analyst will review it to determine if the complaint meets all the legal criteria for a valid complaint and to ensure that the complaint is properly documented. Once the complaint is deemed valid, the GCEO will schedule a conference to discuss the case with you and the alleged perpetrator. At the conference, both parties will have an opportunity to explain their sides of the case and resolve the dispute. If the conference is not successful in resolving the dispute, the GCEO will continue to investigate the complaint. This may include interviewing witnesses, examining documents, and gathering additional evidence. The GCEO may also hold a formal hearing before a referee to determine if the complaint has merit. If the complaint is found to be valid, the GCEO may offer the parties a settlement agreement or may take further legal action to seek justice. The GCEO is dedicated to upholding the rights of individuals with disabilities and ensuring equality for all in the state of Georgia. If you have any questions about filing a disability discrimination complaint, you can contact the GCEO for assistance.
