What is a temporary order?

A temporary order is a legal ruling made by a court in Delaware that provides a temporary solution to issues that can’t be easily resolved during the divorce process. This order does not have the same impact as a final divorce decree, but it gives the divorcing couple a way to get organized while they are waiting for a final decision about their divorce. A temporary order can resolve issues such as spousal support, child support, division of property, who gets to stay in the family home, and financial responsibilities such as bills and taxes. It is important to note that all temporary orders are generally limited in duration, meaning the divorcing couple will need to work out a permanent solution or obtain a final court order. These temporary orders can also be changed if the circumstances of either spouse changes. Ultimately, a temporary order is important as it provides structure during the divorce process and gives divorcing couples the ability to start living separately while still having a legal agreement in place.
