In order to file for a divorce in the state of Florida, a few documents are necessary. The initial document that is needed to start the process is a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage. This document officially begins the divorce process and outlines the basic information regarding the marriage, such as the date, the names of the people getting the divorce, and the grounds for the divorce. Additionally, the Petition for Dissolution will also list the relief/requests that the petitioner would like the court to grant – whether that be the division of property or the decision of custody of the children. Along with the Petition for Dissolution, some other documents that are necessary to file for a divorce in Florida include a Parenting Plan if the couple has any children that are younger than 18 years old.
