What is a Lemon Law in defective products law?

A Lemon Law is a type of defective products law that provides protections when a consumer purchases a product such as a car, appliance, or other item that does not meet the manufacturer’s standards of quality. The Lemon Law in Oregon states that a consumer may be eligible for a refund or replacement if the product has severe defects that cannot be repaired within a reasonable amount of time, usually four attempts. Under the Lemon Law, the manufacturer is required to provide the consumer with a reasonable effort to repair the product. If the manufacturer does not provide a satisfactory repair, the consumer can receive a refund for the full purchase price or a replacement. The manufacturer may also be required to pay additional compensation, such as reimbursement for repair costs. The Lemon Law also applies to leased vehicles. If a leased vehicle is found to be defective, the manufacturer must still offer a repair or replacement. In this case, the consumer may also receive a refund depending on how much of the lease period has expired. The Lemon Law protects consumers by giving them legal recourse when a product does not meet the manufacturer’s standards. Consumers should keep documentation of the purchase and all repair attempts in order to take advantage of the legal protection provided by this law.
