What is Disability Planning Law?

Disability Planning Law is the legal framework established by the state of Washington to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities. It ensures that individuals with disabilities have access to services, supports, and accommodations needed to live independently. Disability Planning Law is designed to protect those who are unable to care for themselves or access necessary services and supports due to physical, developmental, or cognitive disabilities. The law provides for registration, training and support services to help individuals living with disabilities or those who care for them. In Washington, Disability Planning Law defines the rights of individuals with disabilities. It safeguards their rights to ensure they are able to access services, supports, and accommodations that are tailored to meet their needs. This includes providing access to transportation, home health care, and respite services; protecting individuals from discrimination; ensuring services and supports are provided in a timely and cost effective manner; and guaranteeing quality assurance at each step. Disability Planning Law also establishes various programs and services to meet the needs of individuals living with disabilities, such as personal care services, nursing services, and job training. This ensures that individuals with disabilities have the necessary resources to live safely, independently, and with dignity.
