Who is eligible for SSDI benefits?
In the state of Florida, anyone who is assessed as disabled by the Social Security Administration (SSA) may be eligible to receive benefits from the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) program. SSDI is intended to provide financial assistance for individuals who can no longer work because of a disability. To be eligible to receive SSDI benefits, an individual must meet certain criteria. First, the individual must have worked and paid into Social Security taxes. The ability to pay these taxes is based on how long and how recently an individual worked. Second, the individual must be considered disabled by the SSA. To be considered disabled, according to the SSA, an individual must have a physical or mental condition that limits their ability to do basic work activities for at least 12 months, or that is expected to result in death. Additionally, applicants must provide documentation of the disability including medical records, lab results, and any other forms of evidence that demonstrate and support their disability. If an individual meets all of the above criteria, then they may be eligible to receive benefits from the SSDI program in Florida.
