How long does it take to receive a decision on my SSDI application?

The time frame for receiving a decision on your SSDI application varies depending on where you live and the complexity of your case. Generally, it can take up to six months for the Social Security Administration (SSA) to make a decision after you submit your application. In Texas, the SSA sends your application to one of its regional offices for processing. In this office, they review your application, conduct a medical evaluation, and request necessary medical evidence. This process can take several weeks. Once the regional office has a complete application, it goes to the Disability Determination Services (DDS) office to make the final decision. Once a decision is made, the SSA sends a written notice to you informing you of the decision. Generally, you will receive a decision within four to six months of submitting your application. In some cases, the SSA may take longer to review your application if there is a large number of cases in the same region or if you or your doctor provide supplementary evidence. If your SSDI application is denied, you have the right to appeal the decision within 60 days of receiving the notice of denial. This appeal process may take an additional three to six months to process. It is important to follow the instructions in your notice closely to ensure you take the necessary steps to appeal the decision.
