What is a Vocational Rehabilitation Plan?
A Vocational Rehabilitation Plan (VRP) is a plan developed by a team, including the individual with a disability, to support their employment goals. The plan outlines the services and supports needed to assist the individual in achieving their desired job or career. The goal of a VRP is to enable individuals with disabilities to enter, re-enter, or remain gainfully employed through the provision of services such as job counseling, job coaching, job development, training, job placement, and post-employment services. In Hawaii, VRPs are supported through state and federal programs. The State of Hawaii Department of Human Services administers the Vocational Rehabilitation Programs which provide vocational rehabilitation services to individuals who have an impairment or disability that limits their ability to obtain and maintain employment. The Vocational Rehabilitation Program assists in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities so that they may become independent and productive citizens of society. The program also provides services to employers, such as job training and technical assistance. In addition, the Hawaii VRP is funded by the U.S. Department of Education in conjunction with the Hawaii Department of Education. This program serves individuals with disabilities who want to pursue post-secondary education or participate in a vocational rehabilitation program. It provides a wide range of services to help individuals with disabilities in achieving successful employment. Ultimately, the goal of a VRP is to enable individuals with disabilities to gain independence and self-sufficiency through employment. VRPs provide individuals with the necessary support to successfully achieve their employment goals.
