What is Medicaid planning?

Medicaid planning is a process of legal and financial planning that is used to help people with disabilities in Alaska gain access to Medicaid services. Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that provides health care coverage for those with disabilities. Medicaid planning is used to maximize a person’s available resources and to ensure that their Medicaid benefit is applied in the most efficient manner possible. When planning for Medicaid, an individual and/or their guardians must look at all of their resources, including income, assets, and benefits. This process allows the individual to determine what assets and income are available to be put towards their medical care and other costs. Additionally, it helps to ensure that those resources are not lost, so that the individual can still receive the benefits they are eligible for. It’s important to note that Medicaid planning is not a one-time process. An individual or their guardians may have to reevaluate the plan to make sure it still meets their needs or to take advantage of any new changes to Medicaid law in Alaska. It is also important to work with an experienced Medicaid planner. They can help guide the individual or guardians through the process, making sure all resources are being used appropriately. This can help to ensure that the individual is receiving all of the Medicaid benefits they are eligible for and that the resources aren’t being wasted.
