What are public benefits?

Public benefits are programs provided by the government to help individuals who are in need of financial assistance. In North Carolina, public benefits include Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability (SSDI), Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services (SNAP), housing assistance, and Employment Support Services. SSI provides cash assistance to disabled individuals who are not able to work, as well as to individuals who are elderly or blind. SSDI provides financial support to individuals who are adversely affected by disability or illness. Medicaid is a health insurance program for low-income individuals or families. SNAP provides assistance with purchasing food for those with limited incomes. Housing assistance provides assistance with rent and mortgage payments to those in need. Employment Support Services provides job training and other resources to those who need help finding and maintaining employment. Disability Planning Law in North Carolina helps individuals apply for public benefits. This includes providing information related to qualifying for and receiving benefits, assistance in completing applications, and providing representation and advocacy during benefit appeals hearings. Disability Planning Law also helps beneficiaries understand their rights and the requirements for maintaining eligibility.
