What is a HIPP program?
A HIPP (Health Insurance Premium Payment) program is a legal provision in the state of Pennsylvania that helps individuals with disabilities maintain medical coverage. This program pays for health insurance premiums for those on Medical Assistance (MA) so they do not have to use their own resources to pay the premiums. This is helpful for individuals with disabilities because it allows them to maintain their medical coverage and still have money to pay for basic needs such as food and shelter. The HIPP program also provides an option for MA recipients to purchase a private health plan to supplement their existing Medical Assistance. This allows those with disabilities to receive necessary medical coverage that they would not have otherwise had. The program works by allowing MA recipients to apply for a monthly premium payment, which is then paid directly to their insurer. The HIPP program helps those with disabilities stay covered under their health insurance plans by providing financial assistance. Through this program, individuals are able to receive the medical coverage they need to remain healthy and active. Thanks to HIPP, disabled Pennsylvanians can continue to receive the medical care they need while also having money to cover other living costs.
