What is a health care surrogate?

It is important to name someone who can make decisions that are consistent with the individual’s wishes and who has a good relationship with the individual. In Nevada, all individuals eighteen years and older can appoint a health care surrogate. It is important to have a health care surrogate in place in case of emergency situations. If an individual does not have one in place, a court may appoint someone to make decisions for them.
