What penalties can I receive if convicted of a DUI?
If convicted of a DUI in Minnesota, there are a number of penalties you could receive. In general, the more DUI convictions you have, the more severe the penalty. The first time you are convicted of a DUI, you may receive a fine of up to $1,000, a jail sentence of up to 90 days, and/or a license revocation of up to one year. In addition, you may be required to attend an alcohol treatment program, and your vehicle may be impounded for up to 30 days. If you are convicted of a second DUI offense within a 10-year period, you may face a fine of up to $3,000, jail time of up to one year, and/or a license revocation of up to two years. You may also be required to attend an alcohol treatment program, and your vehicle may be impounded for up to 30 days. If you are convicted of a third DUI offense within a 10-year period, the penalties increase significantly. You could receive a fine of up to $14,000, a jail sentence of up to seven years, and/or a license revocation of up to 10 years. In addition, you may be required to attend an alcohol treatment program, and your vehicle may be impounded for up to 60 days. In Minnesota, a DUI conviction can have serious and long-lasting consequences.
