What are the consequences of a 2nd DUI in the state of Florida?

In Alaska, a second DUI offense carries stiffer penalties compared to a first DUI offense. A second offender can face fines between $2,000 to $10,000 and jail time from 72 hours to 1 year. In addition, the offender must also complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service. Furthermore, the offender will be required to attend an alcohol safety course and may be required to install an ignition interlock device in their vehicle. The offender’s driver’s license will be suspended from one to three years. After the suspension, the individual must pay a $75 to $1,500 reinstatement fee and complete the alcohol safety course. Furthermore, the individual will be subject to an annual $75 fee for three years to keep their license. Finally, the second DUI conviction can remain on the offender’s criminal record for up to 10 years. Besides the legal consequences, the financial ramifications can be life-altering. Insurance companies will add a surcharge to the policyholder’s auto insurance premium for up to three years. The surcharge, depending on the insurance company, can range from $2,000 to $5,000 per year. All of these punishments should result in a newfound respect for the gravity of the offense and serve as a deterrent for future DUI offenses.
