What is an elder law advocate?

An elder law advocate is someone who works to protect the rights of individuals over the age of 65 in North Dakota. They provide legal advice and assistance on topics such as wills, trusts, estate planning, health care, housing, Social Security, and Medicare. Elder law advocates can also help seniors with issues such as guardianships, conservatorships, powers of attorney, setting up long-term care insurance, and filing for Medicaid. An advocate can help with creating a plan to protect an elderly person’s finances and medical needs, and ensure that their wishes are followed in the event of an emergency. They are also able to assist with filing veteran’s benefit applications, Social Security and other forms, and set up advance directives. Elder law advocates have the knowledge and experience to provide advice and counsel to help seniors make informed decisions about their futures. They can also help families understand the legal rights of their older relatives and help protect them from financial exploitation or elder abuse.
