How is the Electoral College allocated?

In Arkansas, the Electoral College is allocated based on the number of U.S. Representatives and Senators that the state has. Arkansas is allocated four Electoral College votes, based on its two U.S. Representatives and two U.S. Senators. Each of the four Electoral College votes is assigned to one of Arkansas’s four congressional districts. The candidate who wins the popular vote in that district earns the electoral vote from that district. On election day, each state’s popular vote is tallied and the candidate with the majority of votes in a state receives the Electoral College votes from that state. The candidate who receives 270 or more Electoral College votes nationwide is declared the winner of the presidential election. As a result, candidates are often encouraged to focus their campaign efforts on states with a lot of Electoral College votes by focusing on the issues that are important to those states and targeting their campaign ads in those states. It is also not uncommon for both candidates to make multiple visits to a particular state during the campaign season in an effort to gain support.
